Corn Syrup

by YoliFan

By now you have all probably seen or heard the commercials saying that High Fructose Corn Syrup (or HFCS) is safe because it is made from corn, or that it has the same effects as regular sugar. Despite what the corn industry or anyone else wants us to believe, it is NOT the same as regular sugar. In fact, HFCS is much worse than regular white sugar. HFCS is any type of corn syrup that has been processed to make the glucose into fructose. The food industry has started using HFCS in a wide variety of foods and drinks from crackers and salad dressing to sodas and juice boxes due to the fact that it is so inexpensive to make. Because HFCS is high in fructose and your body requires glucose, your body needs more, so you develop a craving for more sweets.

When glucose is consumed in the body, it increases the production of insulin which allows sugar to go to the cells to be used as energy. It also helps manage the hormones that regulate appetite and food intake. Fructose, however can induce insulin resistance which leads to diabetes, impair glucose tolerance, convert into triglycerides that leads to heart disease, and alter the magnesium balance in the body that can lead to the acceleration of bone loss.

Many experts are now linking the obesity outbreak to HFCS as well. Since the introduction of HFCS to the American diet from 1975-1985 the obesity rate has increased at a similar rate to the amount of HFCS used. New studies show that if HFCS id heated as it would be in cooking, it forms a dangerous chemical called hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). This dangerous chemical has been shown to kill honeybees that were fed the heated HFCS. On top of everything else, HFCS often contains mercury which is toxic to the nerves.

Free Radicals

by YoliFan

Humans don’t actually age, or get sick or get diseases, our cells do. In order for you to stay healthier, help prevent disease, you must provide your cells with the proper fuel and protection. Just like putting gas in our cars, that’s the right fuel to make things work at the optimal level. If you put apple juice in your cars gas tank, it may run for a short time, but it would eventually start to sputter, and die, same goes for your cells.A human cell is comprised of many atoms, and 2 electrons. When these healthy cells replicate themselves, they make an exact copy, this makes the body stay younger with minimal chance for disease and decay. Your body maintains and repairs itself through our millions of cells, from the inside out. Feed your cells the proper fuel for them to do this, and results will be obvious, if you don’t, the results will be even more obvious.Free radicals simply put are the atoms missing 1 electron, doesn’t seem that bad, but here’s what they do. Free radicals travel around and steal electrons from surrounding atoms, there by destroying them and turning them into free radicals. When these damaged cells replicate, they make a damaged copy of themselves, and this leads to our getting sick and disease, and aging more rapidly. Free radicals also destroy healthy cells, they kill them off, once it’s dead it’s gone.

Too Much Caffeine

by YoliFan

Most of us have experienced caffeine symptoms at some point in time. These could range from insomnia to headaches, anxiety attacks and reduced alertness. Caffeine is meant to stimulate the central nervous system. When you drink anything containing caffeine, such as coffee or chocolate, the caffeine makes its way to the blood stream through the stomach and small intestine. In the first six hours, only about half the caffeine is eliminated from the body. The rest of the caffeine remains inside the body for a much longer time. Research shows that more than four cups of coffee a day lead to caffeine addiction. As a result, when regular coffee drinkers go without their shot of java or even a coke, they experience caffeine symptoms. These could range from headaches to plain in the muscles. Although there is no proof of caffeine being connected with cardiovascular disease, excessive intake of coffee has been linked to hypertension. Caffeine addiction comes in next after nicotine and alcohol addiction although the official lethal dose for caffeine is 80 cups of coffee in one sitting. Caffeine stimulates the cortex in your brain that increases your mental activity levels. This makes you temporarily alert and gives you a feeling of being awake and removes all traces of fatigue. However, this phenomenon lasts only for a short while. For those who already suffer from hypertension or anxiety attacks, this increased mental activity can have an extremely unpleasant effect. Heavy intake of caffeine reduces the duration of sleep as well as affects the quality. This is because the nervous system gets so charged up that it interferes with deep, restful sleep. Researchers have also linked osteoporosis in women with caffeine.

Risks Of Caffeine

by YoliFan

Millions of people drink soda each day- diet or not. Those who drink non-diet sodas could be at risk- but exactly how unhealthy can caffeine become for one’s health?Caffeine is both artificially and naturally produced. It is a stimulant, so it has seen many uses in areas of work or study. While most of it is consumed in soda, you can find it in chocolate and pain relievers. At this point I can honestly say that I have found caffeine to be neither a stimulant nor addictive. I have been consuming it for many years in pretty large quantities. I can take it or leave it and, yes, I can sleep for hours after consuming it. It seems to make no difference. It should be noted, however, that caffeine is, in fact, addictive- and you can feel the effects of it for up to 6 hours (or so they say). This can include insomnia, a rather large drawback to the drug found in sodas. It not only dehydrates the body, but removes calcium from bones- a vital nutrient in child development. The maximum amount of caffeine you should consume a day should be no more than 100 milligrams- about two Mountain Dew sodas. It is recommended that if you drink more than this, you try to cut back. If you are sincerely addicted to caffeine-related products- it is recommended you take vitamins to help regain the nutrients you lose.

Caffeine

by YoliFan

For individuals suffering from social anxiety disorder, there are a number of factors that can trigger their anxiety, not all of which are directly related to their core fears about how they are perceived by other in social settings. For example, stress and diet can play key roles in elevating anxiety levels in affected patients, as can certain stimulants. Caffeine, in particular, has been shown to heighten anxiety levels in several studies. Because of that, it is important that patients understand the dangerous relationship between caffeine and social anxiety disorder. The main reason why caffeine and social anxiety are incompatible lies in the nature of the caffeine stimulant effect. Most stimulants, including caffeine, have side effects that include insomnia, excessive nervous behavior, and anxiety. That’s right: anxiety. Obviously, the last thing anyone suffering from social phobia needs is to ingest a substance that incites anxiety in an individual. In addition, caffeine in some forms can inhibit certain minerals and vitamins that your body needs for a properly balanced nervous system and mood regulation. Unfortunately, caffeine is found in many of the more popular drinks and even some medications. Though we often equate caffeine with coffee, the stimulant is also found in many sodas, as well as tea and chocolate. Many weight loss pills and headache remedies also contain caffeine. And while many of those who suffer with social phobia attempt to merely limit their caffeine intake, the incompatibility of caffeine the anxiety disorder has led most experts to conclude that it is best to avoid the substance altogether.
