BPA Free Products

by YoliFan

Do you by any chance know what BPA is? Well it is the short form of Bisphenol A which is supposed to be a dysfunctional material that is used in many polymers and its adjuncts. It is also one of the main ingredients that are used in the making of polycarbonate plastics which is utilized to make many products like feeding bottles, water bottles etc. BPA is also used in making epoxy resins that are typically used to line the cans that are utilized to pack foods and beverages. In short you will find that BPA is present in many things that we make use of today. BPA is said to be very dangerous to human lives and has been known to be one of the causes of breast and uterine cancers. It is also said to create malfunctioning in the brain. The fact is that BPA has been existent in plastic from many years now, but it is only since recently that its harmfulness has been documented.

So the next best alternative is to use BPA free products. Glass bottles are said to be totally free of BPA and so also the PET or the polyethelene terephthalate bottles. All the same glass bottles are far heavier. These PET bottles are also said to be 100% free of BPA and can be used again and again after being sterilized. But the problems with these bottles are that they are not as easily available as their polycarbonate equivalents.

Benefits of Antioxidants

by YoliFan

What are antioxidants? It is important to know what they are and their function before discussing antioxidants in skin care. Antioxidants are essential in ridding the body of free radicals. Free radicals are atoms with unpaired electron. They attack healthy cells and cause skin damage and premature aging. There is a lot of mentioning of antioxidants on television. Most typically they are in commercials about vitamins or nutritional supplements. Antioxidants can also be applied topically in the forms of creams or serums as well as taken orally. The benefits of skin care projects in general will help to keep your skin youthful, reduce wrinkles and lines, and help the skin to retain its moisture. It can reduce signs of aging. Skin care products are best researched well beforehand before making a purchase. Some may contain known carcinogens and other unhealthy ingredients that can harm your skin. Two components of skin is collagen and Elastin. Collagen is a fibrous protein with a lot of tensile strength. It keeps the skin firm among other things. Elastin is a protein as well and helps to keep your skin flexible. Elastin helps stretched skin go back to its original condition. When either or both of these break down you will see lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Probiotics

by YoliFan

What Are Probiotics?

One widely used definition, developed by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is that probiotics are “live microorganisms, which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.” Your intestinal tract contains over 100 trillion bacteria-both good and bad. The friendly or healthy bacteria are vital to proper development of the immune system. These tiny organisms help restore health and balance to the intestinal tract which are beneficial to:

1. protect against microorganisms that could cause disease

2. to aid in the digestion and absorption of food and nutrients

Creating and maintaining a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria can best be achieved by using probiotics. Most often, the bacteria come from two groups, Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium. Within each group, there are different species (for example, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidus), and within each species, different strains (or varieties). A few common probiotics, such as Saccharomyces boulardii, are yeasts, which are different from bacteria.

Healthy Bacteria Can Help Strengthen Your Overall Health

The good bacteria live, colonize, thrive, and reproduce in your gastrointestinal tract, beginning just below the stomach, and form a complex and enormously diverse ecosystem. These resident bacteria synthesize the B-complex vitamins, crowd out yeast and parasites, help regulate blood cholesterol levels, and produce antibiotic compounds.

Each person’s mix of bacteria varies. Interactions between a person and the microorganisms in his body, and among the microorganisms themselves, can be crucial to the person’s health and well-being. When the bacteria in your gut are abundant and healthy, they promote good health, prevent illness, and protect your well-being. Their health is literally your health. Maintaining a healthy intestinal tract is essential because your GI tract contains 80% of the cells that make immune antibodies.

Which Fruit Juice Has the Most Antioxidants?

by YoliFan

It’s no surprise that antioxidants are all the rage nowadays, and for good reason. An antioxidant is defined as “a substance in food that significantly decreases the adverse effects of reactive species, such as reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, on normal physiological function in humans.”In plain English, an antioxidant defends the body against harmful free radicals!Because of the mass appeal for antioxidants, many companies have marketed various ready-to-drink juices as being “the best source” of antioxidants that money can buy. It is therefore of great interest to the general public to know the antioxidant capacity of the beverages that they consume.Just how antioxidant-rich are these juices? And how do they compare with fresh-pressed juices?

To help answer this question, a recent study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry compared the antioxidant status of 12 brand name ready-to-drink juices. However, it should be cautioned that because of the inherent complexity of food matrices, the use of a single antioxidant capacity method (used in many other studies) to determine antioxidant potency is ineffective. This is because antioxidants respond to different reactive species in different tests, which is partially attributed to multiple reaction mechanisms and reaction phases.

Antioxidants

by YoliFan

We know that antioxidants fight the oxidative damage done to our body cells by free radicals. This is all very scientific. Not being a scientist, I can not go into great detail to explain how our bodies come to have free radicals. I can tell you that in most cases they are not good for our bodies. You may understand this as an example, smoking causes free radicals in our bodies. We know that smoking can lead to lung cancer and heart disease. (in the case of smoking, just say no to smoking)To protect ourselves it is a good idea to find something that can fight the free radicals in our bodies. Enter antioxidants, they can prevent free radical damage and even sometimes reverse damage done by them. Some researchers have found that drinking green tea may help reverse some, but definitely not all damage done by smoking.
