Good news to all coffee lovers out there. We were taught to avoid drinking caffeinated drinks to avoid diseases, and that it is unhealthy if done in excess. While it is still advisable not to drink coffee in excess, science has recently discovered some very healthy effects of caffeine on the liver. For years, there was little research done on the effects of caffeine on the liver. That is why “decaf” (decaffeinated) drinks were invented. Soda sales decreased as healthier, fresh juice drinks became popular. And who would ever think that something that is bad for pregnant women is actually good for you? Recent studies show that drinking caffeinated soda and coffee can help protect you from liver diseases. Research has found that caffeine can help reduce the risk of liver damage. Though it is not really clear how caffeine can help, some theories say that caffeine blocks the receptor found the liver and brain and may have effects in our immunity to certain diseases. But this is still speculative, and there are no certain answers yet to the effects of caffeine on the liver. Acai is a special type of fruit that grows predominantly in the Amazon jungle especially in the acai palm trees. It grows always in bunches. The fruit is usually smaller in size and it is purple in color. Acai berry antioxidants prepared from acai berry fruit is of prime importance. The importance of acai berry fruit was discovered by the outside world rather than by the people in Amazon. This fruit gets perished easily in a shorter time from the period of harvesting and so it has to be converted into some other solid or powder form before it is being transported. The acai berry fruit has a large seed in the middle surrounded by outer pulp region. When the acai berry is processed, the first step is to get the seed out and the remaining flesh of the fruit is converted into a puree. The puree is a form which retains all the nutritional benefits that are available in the acai fruit. But the manufacturers will not give the juice in its purified form. They will add water or sometimes mix with other juices before it is converted into finished juice. So the finished juice contains only 10 to 20% pure acai which is enough for us.

Research on acai berry fruit has found out that the fruit has the highest antioxidant activity. This prevents some of the diseases associated with heart. Also it serves as a good capsule for curing cancer. Acai contains flavonoids and anthocyanins. The purple color of acai fruit is because o f the presence of anthocyanins. They serve as powerful antioxidant agents. Generally the role of antioxidants is to destroy the power of the free radicals and thereby protect our body from severe diseases. Eating food with less antioxidant level is of no use. We have to eat food and fruits rich in antioxidant level in order to keep ourselves healthy.

We as consumers are very trusting regarding products we buy in the store. If you go into the Baby Bottle Dept. in any major retail store you will see a variety of different types of Baby Products. Have you ever considered the possibility of chemical contamination into your Babies formula thru the plastic bottles when they are heated up?Bisphenol is the main chemical that leaches out from the plastic in the Baby Bottles you are using for your child. If you heat a Baby Bottle up, it will leach Bisphenol A at about 3 to 7 parts per billion into their formula. Well, what do I do is your first reaction to this problem?We at Safe Homes do not recommend using any form of Baby Bottles made of plastic. The long term consequences of heating your child’s formula up in plastic is not known yet. Do you want your Baby to be one of the victims of this long term study on our children’s health. Bisphenol has been linked to a variety of problems such as breast and prostrate cancer. This is only the beginning, other studies have showed other health problems such as early puberty, miscarriage and other sex hormone effects. So far there is no conclusive evidence as to what Bisphenol will do to your health or your Babies development in their early years. It will take a lot of evidence to prove this but do you want your child to be one of the early test victims such as the Asbestos victims that took 30 years to prove.I have one client who would always run up and kiss her father when he came home from the Asbestos Factory when she was a child in the 1940’s. She never thought that a simple kiss for her father would lead to a serious Respiratory problem that she has to live with now called Mesothelioma. I sure if her father would have known the seriousness of Asbestos, he would have never exposed his daughter to Asbestos Dust from his clothes.

University of California Los Angeles researchers have determined that pomegranate juice has more antioxidants than red wine, orange juice, blueberry juice, Acai berry juice, white tea, green tea and Concord grape juice.

Alzheimer’s prevention – Consuming juice from pomegranates may also halt the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, according to research published in 2006. Aging mice were split into 2 groups, one group received plain water and the second group received diluted pomegranate juice. The pomegranate group was 35 percent faster than the plain water group when negotiating a maze. This mice fed pomegranate also had 50 percent fewer brain deposits that are associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Caffeine is, along with nicotine and alcohol, one of the most widely used mood-affecting drugs in the world. It produces a response similar to the stress response in our bodies, but affects each person differently. For instance, it may cause some people to stay awake, but help induce sleep in others…very strange, I know! Caffeine is very addictive! It is a central nervous system stimulant which temporarily keeps us more awake and alert. It acts as a diuretic which means that it draws water from the body, so you may feel the need to go to the loo more often. A regular caffeine drinker’s body adapts to having caffeine all the time. It has to produce more adenosine, which is a brain chemical which stops the release of our natural stimulants, dopamine and adrenalin. What happens then is that when we don’t get our caffeine fix, we feel anxious, tired and unable to cope. This starts a vicious cycle which can have some serious health effects. It is interesting to know that as little as 100mg of caffeine a day – which is about 1 cup of coffee – is enough to cause withdrawal symptoms when we stop drinking caffeine. Some of the more common caffeine side effects are: increased heart rate ,feeling of being jittery and nervous ,headache ,difficulty sleeping ,increased blood pressure ,difficulty concentrating.
