Risks Of Caffeine

by YoliFan

Millions of people drink soda each day- diet or not. Those who drink non-diet sodas could be at risk- but exactly how unhealthy can caffeine become for one’s health?Caffeine is both artificially and naturally produced. It is a stimulant, so it has seen many uses in areas of work or study. While most of it is consumed in soda, you can find it in chocolate and pain relievers. At this point I can honestly say that I have found caffeine to be neither a stimulant nor addictive. I have been consuming it for many years in pretty large quantities. I can take it or leave it and, yes, I can sleep for hours after consuming it. It seems to make no difference. It should be noted, however, that caffeine is, in fact, addictive- and you can feel the effects of it for up to 6 hours (or so they say). This can include insomnia, a rather large drawback to the drug found in sodas. It not only dehydrates the body, but removes calcium from bones- a vital nutrient in child development. The maximum amount of caffeine you should consume a day should be no more than 100 milligrams- about two Mountain Dew sodas. It is recommended that if you drink more than this, you try to cut back. If you are sincerely addicted to caffeine-related products- it is recommended you take vitamins to help regain the nutrients you lose.

Water Bottles

by YoliFan

There are two aspects of health in our lives: our own health and the health of our environment, which affects our personal well-being indirectly. Usually we focus on keeping ourselves healthy, and by that we forget that we also need to focus on keeping healthy the environment. Balancing the two is not an easy feat. However there is a way to do it: by using metal bottled water instead of your typical plastic bottles, and this is why. We all use plastic bottles when we need to go someplace and want to have water with us. Now plastic bottles take a long time to disintegrate once thrown away, sometimes a couple of hundred years even, which means they are quite a load on our mother earth. Also each person spends over $1000 annually on bottled water. Yes, that’s right, over thousand of dollars per person. Money that could be saved if you only had a metal bottle to carry your water in. You buy the bottle only once and you can use it over and over again on your outdoor trips. Regarding personal health, we need to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day to stay hydrated and healthy. This means you have to drink evenly throughout the day, so carrying bottled water with you is simply common sense. Some people are mountain climbers, hikers, bikers, or love going to the gym. Others simply take their bottles with them while taking their kids on a stroll in the park for a few hours. No matter what, each of us needs to drink plenty of water every day.

Plastic Bottles

by YoliFan

Even though we use different kinds of plastics, plastic bottles play a major role in our day to day activities. Plastic bottles are preferred by most people because they are usually lighter and do not break easily like glass materials or bottles. So it has become a common product used by everyone. Fortunately plastic is one of the materials that can be recycled after you use it, but most people don’t consider the benefits of recycling.

Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Can you imagine, it takes less processing to recycle things. So, this means you require less energy for new manufacturing as well as less pollution being emitted. This brings about a reduction in greenhouse gasses.

Conserving Our Energy

As we all know, recycling does not consume of much energy. You can use two-thirds the energy to manufacture from recycled products. In the case of plastic bottles, which are used in water and soft drinks and are made up of material called Polyethylene Terephthalate (PTH), one pound of recycled PET can save as much as twelve-thousand BTU’s energy.

The Benefits of ‘Reuse’ Most people think that when a plastic bottle is recycled it transformed into a similar bottle. However, the fact is that the plastic bottle you are using now will change into something completely different after the recycling process. It may become carpeting; it may be someone’s jacket or (if you can imagine) even part of someone’s deck. People need to understand this and know that recycled material is used as a resource. The water bottle that you see now will not be the same when it is recycled.

Save our Landfills

You may be thinking ‘how much room can one plastic bottle really take?’. If everyone in the USA were to think that way, imagine how many plastic bottles that would be. One of the biggest problems facing us today is that our landfills are running out of space. The need to create new landfills, which take up more space and puts more trash into our earth, is never ending. One of the only solutions left to us is to drastically reduce what we put into them.People should know by recycling one ton of plastic bottles you can free up to 7.4 cubic yards of landfills. Considering the recycling avenues available nowadays, that turns out to be a lot of space that is being used unnecessarily.

Stainless Steel Water Bottles

by YoliFan

Of all the different kinds of water storage containers that are available plentifully in the market, a stainless steel water bottle would be the ideal one for the many kinds of advantages that it has to offer. It will leave you with the least of worries when it comes to the matter pertaining to your health. For those ecologically conscious beings too, a stainless steel water bottle would be an ideal choice as the bottle can be reused again and again.

Since the stainless steel is a tough material, there is no risk of the plastic leaching into the water. This would leave you a little less worried considering that here is enough and more to worry about the chemicals that are already present in the water coming in plastic containers these days. The drink that is stored in the stainless steel container will remain intact and will not lose its flavor at all. This does not happen in the case of plastic bottles and even the aluminum bottles.

The steel containers are naturally more resistant to the infiltration of bacteria than that of the containers made from any other material. And a reusable steel bottle is advantageous on the economic side too considering that you need not spend extra bucks for plastic bottles which has to be thrown away after use. The steel containers are tough enough that they will remain in great shape for a lot more years. It might only need an occasional change of parts.

As mentioned earlier, the steel alternative to bottles are a lot more sustainable. It will reduce the trash that is becoming a growing menace with its predominantly plastic composition. And the principle of reuse is certainly better than the principle of recycling or the habit of use-and-throw.

Truth About Plastic Bottled Water

by YoliFan

The truth is that only glass or stainless steel drinking water containers are best because of the health risks. Here I will show you why and the dangers in plastic bottles.A plastic drinking water container is made of polycarbonate and the problem here is that one of the compounds used is bisphenol A or BPA which you may have heard of. This has been suspected of being dangerous to human health since the 1930’s.As it is cheap to produce, it is still used but studies have shown how the BPA leaches into the contents of the container and the longer it’s in there, the more is found. Just think how long you sometimes leave liquids in plastic containers in your fridge. It can have a detrimental impact on the production of hormones in the body and has been linked to prostate and breast cancer as well. In children it can lead to behavioural problems and can affect brain health.

If you take care to have healthy filtered water at home to remove the many toxins in the water, it makes sense to use a safe drinking water container to store it in and for going out! If you don’t yet have a filtration system at home, then some companies do offer a portable bottle with an in-built filter so you can have healthy water when you’re out.You will also be helping to reduce the 60 million plastic bottles used each day in the US which adds to the landfills and environmental pollution.Buying plastic bottled water also does not guarantee that it is any better than tap water as it has little regulation and costs more per gallon than gas for your car. In fact, many bottled waters are frequently recalled after the discovery of contaminants likely to cause health problems and are really best avoided.Glass or BPA free stainless steel will preserve the taste and purity of the water and help to encourage you to drink more which in turn helps to improve your health and well-being. They can be stored for as long as you like with no risk of contamination.
